Casio G-Shock

G-Shock is Casio's line of shock-resistant watches. The first model, the DW-5000C, went on sale in 1983 after Kikuo Ibe, then in charge of watch exterior design at Casio, proposed a watch that would not break when dropped. Casio says the project was set the Triple 10 target: 10-bar water resistance, survival of a 10-metre drop and a 10-year battery. The DW-5000C itself was rated to 20 bar, to the ISO free-fall standard of 1 metre, with a 7-year battery; its square case is still the shape of the 5000 and 5600 series.
