Nike Air Max 1

The Air Max 1 was released in 1987, designed by Tinker Hatfield, and was the first shoe to show the Nike Air unit through a window in the midsole. Hatfield cited the Centre Pompidou in Paris, a building with its pipes, ventilation and escalators on the outside. The first sketch dates from 1986, and that year's prototype had a larger Air window that Nike later reissued as the Air Max 1 '86 Big Bubble.

The original was white with red, and Nike still calls it the original white and red colourway. Early colourways Nike lists by name include Royals, Rangers, Pirates and Reds. This hub lists every Air Max 1 colourway from the shops we track, with sizes in stock and the checked date.
