adidas Hawaii SPZL Collegiate Green: suede upper and gum sole

· · By Redacción HYPEIBIZA

The adidas Hawaii SPZL in Collegiate Green and gum is style KK0726. It is a low Spezial shoe with a suede build.

adidas is bringing the Hawaii back through Spezial, in Collegiate Green with a gum sole. Shops list it as a low suede shoe. The full colour name is Collegiate Green/Collegiate Green/Gum M2, under style code KK0726.

Design of the green and gum pair

The upper is green suede and sits low at the ankle. Inside, the shoe has a textile lining. Flat laces close the throat.

The three stripes use a serrated edge, the saw-tooth line you see on many Spezial revivals. On this pair they stay in the same green suede. The outsole is gum rubber.

Gum rubber is a warm brown, set against the dark green upper. That contrast is the whole look. Shop notes for this colour stop at suede, lining, serrated stripes, laces and gum rubber: a plain low trainer for the street.

Collegiate Green is the deep green adidas has used for decades on stripes and uppers. Here it covers the suede body. Gum M2 names the brown rubber sole, so the pair reads dark on top and warm underneath, in the old terrace way.

Spezial and the island shoes

Spezial is Gary Aspden’s adidas project. For more than ten years he has taken shapes from the Herzogenaurach archive and sent them back out with small changes. The old shoe stays recognisable.

His runs have covered handball, tennis and leisure shapes, often with hairy suede or a serrated stripe. Hawaii sits at the leisure end of that set. It is a holiday shoe rebuilt as a low everyday trainer.

Hawaii comes from the island series adidas made in the late 1970s. Tahiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Las Palmas shared that holiday idea. They were leisure shoes, not match boots.

Terrace crowds picked up those low suede trainers for days away from the pitch. Suede, three stripes and a gum sole sat well with jeans. A low collar kept them easy to wear from morning to night.

People have long tied the Hawaii sole to the Las Palmas tennis shoe from the same years. That is archive history. It is not a named collaborator on the green pair.

A brown description that does not fit

Two shop texts for this code do not match. One lists green suede, serrated stripes, a textile lining, laces and a gum rubber outsole. Both page headers still say Collegiate Green and gum.

The other text describes brown suede, camel stripes, a camel heel tab, a dark sole and a green-and-white colour. Those details fight the green and gum name. Use the green suede and gum sole, and treat the brown and camel lines as disputed.

Coming soon, date still open

Shops mark the pair as coming soon. adidas has not confirmed a release day, so any date in circulation is only expected. Stock notes can move before a pair is actually on sale.

One listing calls the fit regular. UK sizes run through the usual men’s range, and some numbers already show as unavailable while the shoe is still marked coming soon. Check your size on the product page before you plan around it.

If you know Handball Spezial, this is a different shoe. Hawaii is lower and simpler, from the leisure archive, while Handball Spezial is the indoor-court trainer with its own last. Do not size one from the other without trying both.
