Khaki/Black/Chile Red identifies this Nike Kobe AD Protro LX, with style code IX5203-200. It brings a khaki, black and red palette to the AD branch of Bryant’s signature basketball line.
The AD line and the Phoenix theme
The Kobe A.D. line began in 2016, after Bryant’s final NBA season. It continued his signature shoes beyond his playing career, rather than adding another number to the original sequence.
Protro combines the ideas of performance and retro within Nike’s Kobe range. That name has been used for returning basketball shoes updated with court use in mind.
This AD Protro is one of four shoes planned for the pack, alongside the Kobe 5 Protro, Dunk Low Protro and Air Force 1 Low. Khaki, black and Chile Red form the collection’s shared colour theme.
Arizona’s desert diamondback faces Bryant’s Black Mamba alter ego in the pack’s name. The local rattlesnake gives the theme its connection to Phoenix, the host city for the All-Star event.
In 2009, Bryant made his last All-Star appearance in Phoenix. That earlier visit gives the city a direct place in his All-Star history, beyond the desert reference in this pack’s name.
