The youth Nike Kobe 8 Shanghai Fireworks (2026), style IV5459-800, is expected on 11 November 2026. That’s a reported selling-platform date, rather than a confirmed Nike launch date.
The low-cut Kobe 8
The Kobe 8 arrived in 2012 as part of Nike’s signature basketball line with Kobe Bryant. Its low-cut shape continued the direction Bryant had helped establish with earlier Nike models, keeping the ankle area open.
Eric Avar led the original model’s design. He focused on reducing weight and keeping the shoe close to the court, rather than adding the height associated with traditional basketball boots.
On the original Kobe 8, engineered mesh formed the upper and a removable Lunarlon insert provided cushioning. Those details belong to the model’s launch-era design, not a specification for this GS release.
The mesh also gave the original shoe a broad surface for printed graphics. That approach made colour and pattern a prominent part of the Kobe 8’s identity, alongside its compact basketball shape.
Nike later revisited the Kobe 8 through its Protro programme, which pairs returning signature designs with performance updates. Protro combines the ideas of performance and retro; the programme began with the Kobe 1 in 2018.
