Mirror Ball Purple brings the atmos pink name to the women’s PUMA Speedcat range. This edition belongs to PUMA’s motorsport-derived shoe line, which began as footwear for driving before becoming a casual trainer.
A model rooted in motorsport
PUMA introduced the Speedcat to the public in 1999, drawing on its earlier work with racing footwear. Its low profile came from a different starting point than the thick cushioning of running shoes or the height of basketball trainers.
Driving shoes were designed around close contact with the pedals and a compact shape inside the car. That history explains the Speedcat line’s familiar slim outline and low stance, rather than the bulk associated with many sports trainers.
A rounded heel is another familiar part of traditional driving-shoe design, allowing the foot to pivot against the floor. On the Speedcat line, those motorsport references became part of its everyday appearance as the shoe moved beyond the circuit.
