The same trainer costs a median 41% more at the dearest shop than at the cheapest

We compared the price of 18,111 trainers that three or more shops sell at the same time. For half of them, the dearest shop asks at least 41% more than the cheapest, a gap of about €28.60; even the shop in the middle charges 20% more. Buying at the first shop you find costs money.

What we found

Data of 27 October 2026: offers in stock that day. Euros only. Each shop's price is that of its cheapest size in stock.

In percentage terms, the gap grows as the trainer gets cheaper. When the cheapest offer is under €60, the dearest asks a median 42% more; between €150 and €250, 13%; above €250, 2%. In euros the picture shifts: between €60 and €150 the gap sits around €28 to €32. Cheap trainers are often past-season models that some shops clear out while others keep them at full price.

By category, footwear (41%) and football boots (40%) spread wider than clothing (32%) or running shoes (34%). Boots also stand out for how common the gap is: for 79% of them the dearest shop asks 20% more or above. Collectibles, at 25%, come closest to a fixed price.

Among brands, Crocs (50%), Converse (44%), PUMA (43%) and Jordan (42%) show the widest spreads. On, Hoka and UGG, between 23% and 25%, the narrowest. adidas, the brand with the most comparable products, sits at 34%, below Nike (40%). A likely reason: brands that are discounted hard in big multi-brand shops spread wide, while brands sold through fewer channels stay tight.

Where the cheapest shop sits matters too. When it is German, the dearest asks a median of only 18% more (€10); when it is Spanish, 43% (€18); when it is British, 45%. Part of the reason is the chains with a shop in both countries, such as Zalando and ABOUT YOU, which often repeat a price and narrow the gap.

What it means for you

Compare at least three shops, above all for trainers under €100: that is where the gap in per cent is widest.

Dear trainers are worth checking too: between €100 and €250, the median gap is still €23 to €32.

Check the price in your size. Our price is that of each shop's cheapest size in stock, and yours may cost more or be gone.

What the data cannot tell you

This is a snapshot of 27 October 2026, with the offers in stock that day. It excludes delivery and returns, which can change which shop works out cheapest.

Each shop's price is that of its cheapest size in stock. We left out 513 products whose dearest offer is more than 3 times the cheapest, and the shops 11teamsports, Top4running and Weplayhandball, whose prices reach us without VAT.

Zalando and ABOUT YOU appear with two shops each, Spanish and German, which often share a price: that narrows the gap a little.

Method

Products in stock at three or more shops, priced in euros, on 27 October 2026. For each, the gap from the cheapest offer to the dearest and to the one in the middle. We give the median per segment; a segment needs 30 products.
